Prize Update

Today was a good day. Why? Because we got more prizes for you fine folks.

The great people over at the TV show "Todd and the Book of Pure Evil" have donated 5 T-shirts and posters to us! If you haven't seen the show go watch it. It airs on SPACE network in Canada every Wednesday @ 9pm. I really like it (and not just because Jason Mewes and my cousin Bill Turnbull are in it [HI, BILL!]). Check out http://www.toddandthebookofpureevil.com/ for more info about the show.

Also, though I won't tell you what's in it yet, I can tell you that the SUPER SECRET AMAZING PRIZE is on it's way to No Pause HQ. So if you are reading this, and you haven't yet add us to facebook or twitter or both do that RIGHT NOW! Click here and here and do it. We are so close to reaching 200 people and beginning the game! If you are confused what I am talking about read the last post.

The No Pause Super Awesome Secret Announcement Game!!!

So now I just feel silly, way to make me put my foot in my mouth universe. Right after I posted that there may not be any big news for a while I got some amazing news and a lot of you are going to be really psyched to hear it. But this is news so big that no tiny tweet, pesky status update or little blog post would do it justice. So let's have some pre-marathon fun and play a game! I will make our incredible announcement once someone wins the game. All I am going to say for now is this is an amazing prize that I cannot believe we get to auction off during our marathon!

Once we have a total of 200 people combined between facebook attendees and twitter followers I will start posting one hint a day on our twitter. I will continue to post hints daily until someone guesses correctly. Once correctly guessed I will announce our secret announcement on our blog / twitter, and maybe the winner will get a prize.

Rules:
  1. You must be a follower of @NoPauseMarathon on twitter.
  2. You get only one guess per day.
  3. You must include @NoPauseMarathon AND #NPSecret in your tweet.
So get your friends to add us to to twitter and facebook, and let the games BEGIN!

Not dead, just plotting.

With just a few weeks left before marathon there's lots of stuff the team and I are working on. We are committed to this being amazing. But because it's a busy time of year for everyone at times the blog may be feeling a little sparse and might go a bit without an update. We got a bunch of cool people we are talking to but I don't want to announce anything too early just in case it doesn't pan out. Think of it this way it only means a bigger better announcement when it eventually happens. This project is my second priority, the first is my class work (which is burying me in essays for the next few weeks), and third is food. So follow us on twitter: NoPauseMarathon and join the facebook event: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=174382075910219. The more people I see following and attending the more pressure there is to not let you down! So do it before your friends do so you'll be the cool one who liked us first.

Donation Goals

Goals are great things to have. They allow you to measure success easily. Therefore over our 30 hour marathon we hope to raise a grand total of $1000.00. Here's how it will work. The first 5 hours are completely free! You are guaranteed at least 5 hours of our time. But after that each hour has a goal we must reach to continue. For us to do the 6th hour it will cost $100. Each additional hour costs 10% extra the previous hour did. So hour 7 is $110 total, hour 8 is $121 total, etc etc. So it will get progressively harder to keep us going over time. The goal amounts are cumulative so it will stack on the previous hour, therefore the actual cost to get from hour 6 - 7 is only $10. And if we are breaking high scores because you're pumping us full of quarters there is the possibility of a BONUS ROUND or few.

Want another incentive to donate? We are going to announce our list of games real soon, but we feel like we are going to have more games than we can get through. So instead of discriminating, we'll allow you the audience to decide. Anyone that donates $50 can choose the next game we play. If we get multiple donations we will do them in order of donations. And in order to get through as many as we can we will do a maximum of one hour or until we begin to bore our audience and run out of jokes.

Want to see the hourly goals? Here's the breakdown...

New Sponsors!

I am very excited to announce we have our first sponsors. A&C Games in Toronto was kind enough to help us out with finding more games of the bizarre caliber and a shout out to Ron who has his own stall in York U's Student Centre. Both of these locations sell games old and new and if you are a collector or just enjoy games, you should definitely check them out. All of them are really friendly and I know I will be returning to the in the future.

A Challenge

Hey Everyone,
Recently I became aware that the guys over at www.bossbattles.org  were doing a marathon benefiting Child's Play the same day as us. What a crazy random happenstance! To be honest, when I found this out I was worried we'd be eclipsed and have to move our event but the team over there was gracious (or foolish, muwhahahaha!!) enough to accept our challenge! We will be going at it head to head to see who can raise the most money over the first 30 hours of our marathons. We are still working out the details of what's on the line other than bragging rights, but in the end it's the children that win. So I highly recommend everyone checks them out and but come the 18th of December put your money in the team that earns it the most (that'd be your best buddies at "No Pause for a Cause").

1 day, 2 awesome events, 1 great charity.

Announcing "No Pause For A Cause"

Hey Everyone,
This is the official blog for the "No Pause for a Cause" charity fundraiser, your source for all the information about what, when, and how we're doing/did.

After years of feeling guilty for being unable to donate to charity because I am a broke student, I remembered the phrase "Time is money" and have decided to put it into practice. So I am pleased to announce the first "No Pause for a Cause" charity fundraiser. All donations will go directly to Child's Play, a charity which buys children's hospitals games and toys. Last year they raised over 1.7 Million Dollars! (That deserved capitalization). Our marathon is inspired by the fine people at LoadingReadyRun and their horribly successful Desert Bus for Hope marathon which raised over $140 000 last year!

If you don't know about gaming marathons here is what we'll be doing; A team of gamers will be taking shifts playing the strangest games we can find for up to 30 hours straight. For your viewing pleasure the event will be streamed live over the Internet, and to keep you entertained we will be providing the best running commentary our sleep deprived brains can provide. Each hour if we reach our goal we will extend the marathon for another hour. Repeating until we reach our time limit of 30 hours OR we fail to reach our donation target. So as long as donations keep coming in, we keep playing.

All you have to do is watch. Our team is composed of the finest minds the university system has produced so we understand what it's like to be broke. We don't expect everyone to donate, but we'd love it if you could. Or at least spread the word so eventually someone will be able to.

Check us out on Facebook, and please come back as more information is posted regularly in the lead up to this year's event.
